Metabolism

Metabolism is the set of life sustaining chemical transformation within the cell of living organisms. Growth and reproduction of organism is allowed by the reaction of catalyzed-enzyme, maintain their structures and influence their environments. Metabolism can also be known as all the chemical reaction that takes place in living organisms including digestion and transportation of substances into different cells.

Plant secondary metabolism
The secondary plant metabolism contains products that aid in the development and growth of plants; they are not required for plant to survive. Facilitation of the primary metabolism in plants is by secondary metabolism. The primary metabolism consists of chemical reactions that allow the plant to live. For the plants to remain healthy, secondary metabolism plays an important role in keeping all of the plants system in proper working order. Defense mechanisms are a common role of secondary metabolism in plants.

Primary verse secondary plant Metabolism
All metabolic pathways that are essential to the plant`s survival comprises of primary metabolism. Primary metabolites are compounds that are directly involved in the development and growth of a plant whereas secondary metabolites are compounds produced in other metabolic pathways that are important, are not essential to the functioning of the plant. Secondary plant metabolites are useful in the long-term for defense purposes and give plants characteristics such as colour. Secondary plant metabolism is used in the regulation of primary metabolic pathways. Plant hormones which are the secondary metabolism are often used to regulate the metabolic activity within cells and takes charge of the overall development of the plant.
