Plant growth depends largely on the
type, nature and whether it’s a seasonal plant or not. Seasonal growth cycles
can be influenced by several factors, including temperature, amount of water
and amount of daylight (Photosynthesis). Plants patterns of growth processes,
depending on the factors of which they reproduce and the role they play in
their environment. Below are seasonal plants and their patterns of growth.
Annuals
Some garden plants only grow for one
season and then need to be re-cultivated the next season. These plants are
called annual plant (once per year).
The pattern of growth in annual plant is such that, their entire life cycle
only occurs within one growth season, which may last from a few weeks to a few
months. During this period, the plant develops roots, stem and leaves before
the end of its cycle. In the times of the plant existence, it produces seeds
which are the only thing that give birth to a new annual plant to grow the next
season.
Good examples of annual plants are weeds,
vegetables, grains and wildflowers.

Biennials
Biennial plant patters occurs every
two years. The prefix 'bi' may be more familiar because bi is synonymous with
the word two. Biennials are
plants whose entire life pattern occurs within two years. In the first year,
these plants are just vegetative, they don't produce reproductive structures.
Rather, these plants will grow roots below ground and a small rosette of leaves
near the surface. This growth occurs during growing season, such as the wet or
warm season. At the end of the first growth season, the above-ground part of
the plant may die back. However, the roots remain, while in the second year of
growth, the plant stem elongates and flowers and seeds are produced.
Good examples of biennial plant are carrots,
foxglove and parsley.

Perennials
Some plants, based on their nature do
not die every year or every other year. These are commonly trees and shrubs. Perennials plant persists for many
growing seasons. Perennial plants must have structures that allow for them to
survive through different seasons. This means that the plant survives extreme
temperature or water changes.
Good examples of perennials plant
are trees and herbaceous.
