Age
Either very
young or very old animal are usually less efficient in their digestion of feed.
The young animal can neither eat nor digest very much roughage on their
digestive tracts, especially when their rumens are not yet develop.
In the case
of old animal, the ability to digest feed is often impairing by poor feed,
which makes adequate mastication of their feed very difficult. Declining health might further adversely
affect digestibility at an adverse age.
Individual
Animals have
been shown to differ in their digestion of the same king of feed as much as
75%. However, most animal vary about 4 – 5 %.
Work
The purpose
of the animal or nature of the usage of the animal such as work serves as a
factor which affects its digestibility. Light exercise seems to improve
digestibility of feed while heavy exercise depresses digestibility.
