Sowing


Sowing is the act of planting or cultivating crops. Sowing could either be done directly otherwise known as sowing insitu or at stake or sowing could as well be done first of all in the nursery before the seedlings are the transported to the main field of cultivation. Different materials are used for sowing seeds in the nursery. The various materials used for sowing in the nursery include;

Seed boxes: Here, in this sowing material, the seed boxes are filled with the top soil that is rich in organic matter.

Seed bed: The seed bed is prepared with a shade provided in other to shade the seedling from direct heat from the sun or to prevent excessive temperature.

Basket: The basket is filled with top soil and seed are planted in it.

Tray: The seed tray which has perforation at the base is filled with the top soil before they are seeded.
The importance of the perforation at the base is to allow excess water to drain out
