Network of communication

In network of communication, it is said to be the patterns or manner of the communicational process in a social organization. There are various types of network of communication which are chain, star or wheel, all channel or envelop, rake, Y and circle communication. All of the listed types of communication have their own mode of operation in communicational process.

It should be put to consideration or principle that as the number of persons in a communicational group increases, arithmetically, the number of possible interaction increases geometrically too. The number of possible communication channels between individual numbers increases more rapidly than a group of small size does. For example, in a set of five individuals, there are N (n-1) 1/2  or 10 channels of communication possible as can be observed in all channels of network.

Agricultural extension administrators can design their units of work in such a way that it will enhance effectiveness of communication between component units and within the extension service or agency. Network of communication may be use to regulate behavior, promote innovation, integrate activities, or inform and instruct individuals in the group.

Communication network can be differentiated in terms of centralization and decentralization. Other ways in which communication network can be differentiated are terms of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction of numbers. The envelop and circle networks are decentralization to a high extent, while the Y and wheel types of communication are more highly centralized. The wheel is the most centralized in all forms of communication network since all communication flow from and to only one individual. The channel form of communication network is the least centralized in all. In other words, it is the most decentralized in communication network. The effectiveness of communication network depends on situation factors.
