Irrigation
is the application of water to farm land or soil through artificial means
such as pipes, hoses or ditches. An irrigated land usually contains crops,
grasses or vegetation that does not usually receive adequate water from rainfall
or other natural sources. This is used in the assisting and growing of
agricultural crops, maintenance of landscapes, as well as revegetation of
disturbed soil in dry areas and during periods of inadequate rainfall. Irrigation
still play other important role in crop production, this include protecting the
plant against frost, help in the prevention of soil consolidation and the
suppression of weed that grows in grain fields.
The water
that is used for the purpose of irrigation might be taking from nearby reservoirs,
lakes, rivers, wells or pipe-born water.
