Characteristics possessed by an ideal fertile soil


The followings are characteristics which must be found in an ideal fertile soil for the proper growth of plants as well as some agricultural practices.
  • Good water holding capacity
  • Easily tilled for crop production (light soil)
  • Good granular (highly spheroidal) structure
  • Availability of the essential elements required forms and amount
  • High cation exchange capacity
  • Adequate content of humus.
