Management of cleared vegetation

After the vegetation of land has been cleared, there are therefore two main operations that are indispensable for other subsequent operation to be carried out in the cleared field. The two indispensable operations to be carried out are piling and burning.

Piling
This is a process whereby the felled trees are stacked in windrows (usually about 60 meters apart) to permit such subsequent operations likes ploughing, harrowing, and so on, in the field. When clearing is done on a large scale, this operation is better mechanized using tractor – mounted rakes, chains and so on, rather than being manual.

Burning
To maximize the use of cleared land effectively, burning is usually adopted as a better and economical means of disposing of the dry piled vegetation on the cleared field.
