In an orchard
establishment, the maintenance includes the following;
- Addition of organic matter to the soil
- Prevent the growth of weed and unwanted grasses
- Protect the surface root from excessive temperature
- Checking and retaining the soil moisture content
- Permission of water and air circulation in the soil
- Covering of the top layer of the soil with some material like leaves, papers and so on to serve as mulching in the orchard establishment
