Guidelines for consideration in soil tillage


For a successful tillage practices to take place, the following guidelines need to be given total consideration or serve as mode of operation;
  • Moisture stress is one of the commonest causes of yield depression in low landed areas. Adequate drainage, therefore, need to be provided by bursting the underlying hard pan.
  • Good and healthy crops as well as strong biological activity in the soil are the best conditioners and valuable that aids weed suppression.
  • Tillage on its own nature can rarely create a good soil conditions from poor ones but it is valuable in promoting the process of soil improvement.
  • Soil tillage should reduces the limitation on crop production or yield potentially, otherwise it is most unnecessary. Therefore, the optimum tillage to ensure a good crop should always be the end result.
  • Soil tillage has beneficial effects to the soil such as loosening, tilts production and so on, and adverse effects such as compaction, smearing and so on. The good effects must be maximized and the bad effects reduced.
