GROUP METHODS OF COMMUNICATION IN EXTENSION SERVICE

In group methods of communication, what is considered mostly in the group is the inclination of an individual to react to the pressure and opinions of the entire group members in which he is a participant and to consider the view of others before taking a decision which is about to opt for changes in his farming operations.

Participation in group methods are instrumental in influencing farmers reasoning, feeling as well as action on the subject matter which is under discussion. Group methods have been found to assist in moving people from the awareness stage through interest and even trail stages of the adoption process of any new innovation. When an extension officer comes up with a new innovation to a group, the participants may ask questions, trade ideas with each other and sometimes elicit one another into action. Group methods in extension service are general with the nature of meetings, group discussions, exhibitions, excursions and method demonstration.
